MICA RUNWAY is the leading arts and entertainment high-end event in New York City exclusively dedicated to showcasing works by emerging filmmakers, up-and-coming fashion designers, striving talents, literary and visual artists who utilize American Sign Language (ASL). MICA RUNWAY strives to provide access to the film, fashion, art and visual art worlds for these individuals who may be intimidated, oppressed or ignored by the gatekeepers of the elite art, fashion and entertainment industries.MICA stands for Multicultural International Consortium of [Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing] Artists and Advocates is celebrating its ten-year Anniversary. This year's theme is GREEN FASHIONOLOGY, fusion of eco-fashion, futuristic and technology.We have cultivated a loyal group of a hip, young generation (aged 18-39) who want to keep in touch with new developments in the arts, fashion and technology. These groups of people strive to be in-the-know about the latest happenings, buzz and trends in the city

The Co-option of Deaf Talent® Movement (2012)© 

The  Deaf Talent ®  Movement, founded by the first Black Deaf Filmmaker/Activist,  Jade Bryan  in 2012, is a social and cultural icon centralized on  spreading awareness  about the lack of representation of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) in television and film. However, Black Deaf actors, writers, producers, and Black Deaf stories are the most overlooked in getting recognition in film and television. This movement began on multiple online and real-life platforms, starting with social media. Jade Bryan created a social media platform by using Twitter and Facebook to spread awareness of the need for better representation in television and film before moving her movement to the streets.
