We are thrilled to announce that our film, “WHAT SOMALIA WANTS,” an episodic television pilot has been accepted into the competition segment of the 19th Annual Harlem International Film Festival, taking place on May 16-26, 2024.
We filmed the project in Harlem, making it a privilege to premiere the film in our local community and the heart of Harlem, surrounded by the people and environment that inspired its creation. “What Somalia Wants” is a prequel to the classic feature film,“If You Could Hear My Tune,” which was filmed entirely in Harlem and written, produced, and directed by Jade Bryan 20 years ago. This is a remarkable honor and a humbling experience, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share our work with the world.
We are elated to present our episodic pilot on a platform as esteemed as this, and to elevate the stories that are told through the unique perspective of the BIPOC deaf lens. We believe that this is a chance to share stories that need to be heard and seen by people from all walks of life.
There will be numerous festivals throughout the year until 2025. We look forward to learning which network will pick it up.
We'll keep you updated on the screening details. Visit the website for more information as they update it periodically. https://harlemfilmfestival.org
