The screening of What Somalia Wants at the 26th San Francisco Black Film Festival was a resounding success! The turnout was impressive, and the audience was fully invested in the film. It was fantastic to see so many people interested in the story we are telling, and the Q&A session after the screening was engaging and informative.🎬🎥🎞️

🎥The moment when the Black deaf people in the audience saw themselves on the screen was a powerful reminder of the importance of representation and diversity in media. Black deaf stories are the most untapped market.🎥

I was grateful for the opportunity to share my vision with such a receptive audience, and I appreciated the hard work of Cree Ray and her team in making the event possible. The interpreters were a great addition, and their presence made the event more inclusive and accessible. Thank you, Rob & Gen! 🙌🏽

The Deaf Talent ® Movement, founded by the first Black Deaf Filmmaker/Activist, Jade Bryan in 2012, is a social and cultural icon centralized on spreading awareness about the lack of representation of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) in television and film. However, Black Deaf actors, writers, producers, and Black Deaf stories are the most overlooked in getting recognition in film and television. This movement began on multiple online and real-life platforms, starting with social media. Jade Bryan created a social media platform by using Twitter and Facebook to spread awareness of the need for better representation in television and film before moving her movement to the streets.
